Alaska On My Mind

If I had a nickel for every time Alaska has appeared on our humble blog over the past few years, I'd be able to buy a gallon of gas! And I don't mean that Regular Unleaded stuff. I mean, honest-to-goodness Premium, people! The good stuff.

Once again, Alaska is on the front page... though, this time under tragic circumstances. I'm sad to report that Senator Bernard Lewis passed away a few days ago. His vacant seat will be held temporarily by his wife, Catherine, who was appointed until a special election can be convened.

I do not plan to walk on the graves of the dead, my friends. By all accounts, Senator Lewis was a good man. My contacts in Washington and Juneau say that he was a caring family man, and he was intensely protective of "The Last Frontier" state.

Loyal readers will remember that on various occasions we uncovered evidence of mysterious detainees and blueprints that we found in Michael Buchanan's home of a clandestine Alaskan prison.  In each instance, Senator Lewis denied our request for further detail, confirmation of a budget line item, or even a comment -- this from the same Senator that was championing the Leahy-Cornyn Faster FOIA Act. Irony is lost on these guys!

Our prayers are with Senator Lewis' family at this tragic time. But, I sincerely hope that Catherine decides to illuminate some of the shadows that her husband guarded so well.
